Domain Registration Email Messages

Introduction

The Domain Registration System results in certain communications to you in its normal operation. Because of the volume of otherwise-technical emails, this is commonly used for phishing schemes and by bad actors to steal domain names, gain access, and so on. We include the most common messages here to help in identifying the next steps to take if a message is received.

WHOIS Data Confirmation

A “WHOIS Data Confirmation for [domainname]” is a common message. The message encourages you to confirm that the information in your domain name is correct. ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) creates a WDRP policy which requires that domain name registrars remind their customers once a year to review and update the contact information for their domain name.

If there are no changes to your contact information, no action is required. If updates are needed, please visit https://manage.opensrs.net/ to update your contact information. It is always safest to not follow links within emails and instead visit the DNS management panel directly.

For more information, ICANN has a FAQ page available on the topic.
